3 Different Religions Tika And Marloes

On this internetpage we (Tika and Marloes), are going to compare 3 religions. Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. The religions will be compared at different points, and will be further explained. in this way you can easily see the differenc ein diffent cultures.

What do they believe? (short explanaitions)

Christianity - What do Christians believe?
Christians believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and that:

  • God sent his Son to earth to save humanity from the consequences of its sins
  • Jesus was fully human, and experienced this world in the same way as other human beings of his time
  • Jesus was tortured and gave his life on the Cross (At the Crucifixion)
  • Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his Crucifixion//

Islam - The basic belief of Islam is that there is only one God, whose name in the Arabic language is Allah, and who is the sole and sovereign ruler of the universe.

Muslims have 6 main beliefs

  • Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
  • Belief in angels.
  • Belief in the holy books.
  • Belief in the Prophets (special messengers). e.g. Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isa (Jesus).
  • Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.
  • Belief in the Day of Judgement…
  • The day when the life of every human being will be assessed to decide whether they go to heaven or hell.
  • Belief in Predestination…
  • That Allah has already decided what will happen.
  • Muslims believe that this doesn't stop human beings making free choices//

Buddhism -

  • Buddhist believe that the Buddha saw the truth about what the world is like.
  • They believe that nothing in the world is perfect, and that the Buddha found the answer to why it is like this.
  • They do not believe that the Buddha was a god. He was a human being just like them.
  • They believe that he was important because he gained Enlightenment, and he chose to teach other people how to reach it too.

Gods

Christianity - God is the god of the Christians. He made the world and created everything on earth.
Islam -Allah
Buddism - Siddharta Gautama also known ass Buddha is the god of the Buddhists. He was a prince and didn't know anything about the life beyond the walls of the palace. When he is married and has a child he climbs over the wall. He sees an old sick person for the first time inhis life. he decides to become a normal man and to life a a normal person.

How old are these religions?

Christianity - The Christianity started when Jezus died. Approxamately between AD 29 - 35.
Islam - The Islam started in the 7th century when Mohammed recieved a message from god.
Buddhism - After the death of Buddha, the religion started to develop. (around 525 bc)

Founders

  • Islam: Mohammed

Mohammed lived approximately 1400 years ago. He was born in Mecca. When Mohammed was 40 years old, he got the assignment from God to tell the people in Mecca how to live.

  • Christianity: Jesus

Jesus lived approximately 2007 years ago. He was born in Nazareth. Jesus was “the son” of God and he told people how to live in a good way. He did that with the help of “the ten comandments of God”.

  • Buddhism: Buddha

//Buddha lived approximately 1570 years ago. He was born in Lumbini. (Now called Nepal) Buddha was a prince and during his visits in the country, he realised what kind of good life he had in comparison with all the sick and old people. He helped the people and became a normal man.

Holy Book

Christianity - The holy book of the cristians is the Bible. The bible is divided in 2 parts the Old and the New Testament. The Old Testament describes the things that happend before Christ was born. The New Testament tells the stories about after Christs' birth.
Islam - The holy book of the Islam is the Qur'an. It teels the story of the founder Mohammed.
Buddhism - The sacred book of Buddhism is called the Tripitaka (called Tipitaka in Pali). It is also called the Pali Canon, after the language in which it was first written.

Status of women

  • Christianity: The status of women is variable. Conservatives and liberals differ greatly.
  • Islam: The status of women is strongly affected by cultural traditions. Severely oppressed in some countries.
  • Buddhism: The status of women is better then before. In history, men were very strict, but that’s less now.

Main celebrations/holy days

Christians: Christmas is the event when Jesus was born.
Easter is the event when Jesus rises from his grave.

Islam: Navroz is the first day in spring. Wesak is the Ramadan (the month when people fast).

Buddhism: Nirvana day is when Buddha died. Bodhi day celebrates Buddha’s enlightenment.
